Charleston Light Opera Guild, the Official Musical Theatre of West Virginia will present the hit pop-rock musical "Mean Girls" at the Charleston Coliseum Theatre on weekends July 30 – August 8, 2027. Adapted from Tina Fey’s hit 2004 film, Mean Girls was nominated for 12 Tony Awards in 2018 and took Broadway by storm. The book is by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Neil Benjamin.
Cady Heron grew up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her new home in suburban Illinois. In order to rise to the top of her new high school popularity pecking order she takes on the Plastics, a trio of lionized girls led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. Cady and her new friends, Janis and Damian, devise a revenge party to end Regina’s reign but Cady learns that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Cady: New junior at North Shore High; grew up in African savanna & was home-schooled by her wildlife biologist parents; bright and strong, she is the emotional heart of the musical; range top Gb5, bottom G3.
Regina: Queen Bee of the Plastics; when she shines her light on you, you feel like the most important person in the world; regal and “hot”, but really just a kid over her head; range top Gb5, bottom F#3.
Janis: She is an “art freak” & social outcast; not afraid to be weird or make others uncomfortable; she longs to avenge the devastating events of middle school; range top F5, range bottom Ab3.
Damian: He is an outgoing and active member of the student activities committee; fiercely loyal to Janis;
vocal range top A4, range bottom F2.
Gretchen: She is one of the Plastics, a bit fragile & a nervous wreck who is desperate to please Regina; she befriends people to “bank” their secrets & later uses them for her benefit; range top D5, bottom G3.
Karen: She is one of the Plastics trio; essentially kind & relaxed; her intellect and personality never had a real chance to develop; vocal range top Gb5, range bottom G3.
Aaron: He is a cute boy with a good moral compass & backbone; aware of the female attention he receives but not going to be run over by the Plastics; Broadway & pop tenor; vocal top Bb4, bottom B2.
Mrs. Heron: She is Cady’s intellectual Mother who can’t understand why her daughter is devolving before her eyes; adult singer/actor.
Ms. Norbury: World–weary Calculus teacher who pushes Cady to be her smartest self; adult singer/actor.
Mrs. George: Regina’s “Cool Mom”; desperate to look young & feel like one of the teens; doesn’t want Regina to repeat her mistakes; great singer-Broadway top Eb5, bottom G3.
Mr. Duvall: Principal of North Shore High; not prepared for the harsh reality of his out-of-control junior girls; funny; strong singer.
Kevin G: Captain of the North Shore Mathletes; a confident student and decent rapper.
Ensemble: Portray students who dance, sing, and act plus adults to play parents and teachers.
