Charleston Light Opera Guild, the Official Musical Theatre of West Virginia, will present "Finding Neverland" at the Charleston Coliseum Theater on April 9-11 and 16-18, 2027. Based on the Academy Award-winning motion picture by the same title and the play, The Man Who Was Peter Pan, the story follows the relationship between the playwright J.M. Barrie and the family who inspired Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. Finding Neverland features music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy and a book by James Graham. The original 2015 Broadway cast starred Matthew Morrison as J.M. Barrie, Laura Michelle Kelly as Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and Kelsey Grammar as Charles Frohman and Captain Hook.
J.M. Barrie, a struggling playwright, encounters a widowed mother, Sylvia Llewelyn Davies and her four sons in Kensington Park. As Barrie befriends the family, he is inspired by their adventures, and particularly by Peter, who is reluctant to play due to his grief from losing his father. Barrie helps him to learn to play again and then becomes inspired to create a new art form, children’s theater. But who will pay to see a play about children? Who will play these characters? And how will they make Peter Pan fly? The show explores themes of imagination and friendship and is a delight for the entire family.
