My Fair Lady

The Charleston Light Opera Guild presents this masterpiece at the Charleston Civic Center Little Theatre on April 28, May 4, 5, 11, and 12, 2018 at 7:30 PM with matinees on April 29 and May 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM. The Guild has not produced this timeless classic for 25 years.

Lerner and Loewe's award-winning story of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady is widely considered one of the greatest musicals of all times. When My Fair Lady opened on Broadway with Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison, it collected six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, while the film version with Audrey Hepburn and Harrison took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture.

Based on George Bernard Shaw's play, Pygmalion, My Fair Lady is that rare musical by which all others are measured. Eliza Doolittle is a young flower seller with an unmistakable Cockney accent which keeps her in the lower rungs of Edwardian society. When Professor Henry Higgins tries to teach her how to speak like a proper lady, an unlikely friendship begins to flourish. With a book by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe the musical features one of Broadway's greatest scores, including Wouldn't It Be Loverly?, With a Little Bit of Luck, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face, and On the Street Where You Live.
