Overview
|
Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of Seymour
Krelbourn, a meek florist who makes a Faustian pact with a tiny plant in
order to win the girl he loves. The mysterious Audrey II plant needs
blood to survive, however, and by the end of the show its bloodthirsty secret
threatens the entire planet.
Little Shop of Horrors opened at the Orpheum Theatre
in 1982 to critical acclaim and enjoyed a run of 2,209 performances. The
musical was captured in a 1986 film starring Rick Moranis as Seymour,
Steve Martin as Orin the dentist, and Ellen Greene in a recreation of her
Off-Broadway role as Audrey. The movie preserved most of the
production’s charm with its hip score and book. This affectionate spoof of
the 1950s science-fiction movies boasts a new success with its current Broadway
production at the Virginian Theatre.
