Overview

The Guild proudly presents the stage adaptation of the Disney Channel original movie of the same name.  In this brilliant recreation, every character from the movie and every song that propelled the soundtrack to the top of the Billboard charts (plus two new songs written especially for the stage) combine to make this show a top-notch production.  It is a must-see for every fan of the the film and every theatergoer alike!  The Guild was fortunate to receive the rights to perform this musical in Charleston and at the beautiful and spacious venue provided by  the Clay Center.

In addition, the Charleston Town Center will serve as support sponsor complete with an appearance of original Disney Channel Movie star Corbin Bleu at the Charleston Town Center and with the Guild cast on July 21, 2007 at noon.  The Guild cast will perform three musical numbers from the show during the preview in the mall center courtyard.

For those unfamiliar with the movie, the show centers around Troy Bolton, the reigning high-school basketball star, and Gabriella Montez, the brainy new kid, who want to break out of their molds and try out for the high school musical.  Their families and friends are less than supportive, and Sharpay and Ryan, who heretofore were shoo-ins for the lead roles, also scheme to keep them from their dreams – and even from each other. With songs like The Start of Something New, Get Your Head in the Game, and Breaking Free, Disney’s High School Musical follows the characters’ struggles with romance, insecurity and peer pressure. Everyone learns about acceptance, teamwork and just being yourself.

This is the Guild's first production of the show.
